In the name of God Amen this twentieth day of January in the yeare of our Lorde God one thousand six hundred fifty and five I William Rotheram of Eckington in the County of Derby, the elder yeoman sick in body but of good and perfect remembrance God be praised for the same doe make and ordayne this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following That is to say first I Commende my soule into the hands of the Allmighty God my Maker hopeing assuredly through the merits and (bloudy?) passion of Jesus Christ my Saviour to be made partaker of life everlasting And I commend my bodie to the Earth from whence it came And to be buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named And as concerning my wordly goods and estate wherewith it hath pleased God to endow mee I will give and devise as followeth Imprimis I will and devise that my debts legacies and funerall charges and expenses be disbursed and paide out of my whole personall Estate Item I will and devise and give to John Rotheram my second sonne Twenty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paide to the sayde John Rotheram fowerty daise after my decease in full satisfaction of his thirde part and filiall portion Item I will devise and bequeath unto Ellin Rotheram my dear and loving wife in lieu of her dower the third part of all my freehold lands and tenaments within the parish of Eckington aforesayde To have and to holde to her the saye Ellin and her Assignes during the terme of her naturall life And will and devise that shee the sayde Ellyn shall and may have hold and enjoy all my Coppyhold and Customary lands and Tenaments with the Manner of Eckington for and during the terme of her widowhood according to the Custome of the Manner of Eckington aforesayde Item I will devise and give unto William Rotheram my eldest sonne and heyre apparent All my freehoulde lands and Tenaments within the parish of Eckington aforesayde (except the right and estate of the sayde Ellin my wife, to her before herein devised) To have and holde the same unto him the sayde William Rotheram my sonne his heyres and assignes for ever And doe …… will and devise that my sayde sonne William Rotherham shall and may have and holde all my Customary lands and Tenaments within the Manner of Eckington aforesayde to him the sayde William Rotheram his heyers and assignes for ever after the terme of the widowhood of the sayde Ellen my wife bee and according to the Custom of the Mannor of Eckington aforesayed Item I have given and bequeathed unto my thirde onne Thomas Rotheram one hundredth pounde of lawfull money of England and secured the payment thereof by an obligation made by my sayde sonne William Rotheram to the sayde Thomas Rotheram which summe hee hath already received Item I give and bequeath unto my foweth sonne Robert Rotheram Two hundredth pounde of lawfull English money and secured the payment thereof by an obligation made by my sayde eldest sonne William Rotheram to the sayde Robert Rotheram in and upon the six and twentieth day of March which shall be in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundredth and fifty and fower in full satisfaction of his thirde part and filiall portion Item I will devise and bequeath unto my eldest daughter Mary Barley the wife of Henry Barley one shilling in full satisfaction of her Childe part and filiall portion. The Fowre and twentieth day of March in the yeare of our Lord one thousand sixe hundred fifty fower a Commission on letters of Administration issued forth unto Thomas Rotheram the naturall and lawfull sonne of William Rotheram the elder late of Eckington in the County of Derby yeoman deceased To Administer all and singular the goods chettells and debts of the sayde deceased according to the tenour and effect of this Will William Rotheram the sonne and executor named therein dyeing before hee had proved the same and hee the sayd Thomas Rotheram being first sworn by virtue of a Commission truly to Administer the same.
