This is the last Will and Testament of me John Bacon of Mosbro, in the Parish of Eckington in the County of Derby Cordwainer
First – I will and direct that all my just Debts and Funeral expenses and the charge of proving this my last Will and Testament be paid and payable out of my personal estate and effects by my Executors hereinafter named – I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Bacon of Mosbro, aforesaid the Freehold dwelling house where I now reside with the outbuildings and appurtenances thereto adjoining and belonging also the copyhold croft adjoining thereto called Steward Croft, containing Two Roods and Twenty One Perches more or less also all and singular my household goods and furniture personal estate, Debts, Rights, credits and effects whatsoever and wheresoever (subject to the payment thereout of all my just debts and Funeral and Testamentary expenses as aforesaid) on the sole and express condition that he my said son Thomas Bacon shall allow to my dear Wife, Martha Bacon a good and comfortable maintenance during the term of her natural life and also the use and benefit of all and every thing hereinbefore may be named willed and bequeathed to my said son Thomas Bacon, and to be in every respect as at my decease, but should anything arise by and between my said son Thomas Bacon and my said Wife Martha Bacon to cause a wish on the part of my said Wife to live apart to herself or with any of her other children, then my said son Thomas Bacon shall be and is hereby bound to pay to my said Wife Martha Bacon the sum of Two shillings and sixpence per week during the term of her natural life and at her decease he (my said Son Thomas Bacon) shall bear the expenses of her funeral – And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Son Thomas Bacon and George Bramhall of Hackenthorpe in the parish of Beighton and county of Derby sickle maker, Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me made. In Witness whereof I the said John Bacon the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-third day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-seven.
